Deputy: One of two Orange County men arrested for drug possession tried to bring drugs into the jail

Orange County sheriff's deputies made two drug arrests Wednesday after receiving a tip of suspicious activity at a house near Vidor.

Deputies, who were acting on a tip, went to a house in the 1100 block of Central Street in Orange County. A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said that while deputies were talking with a man at the house, identified by the Sheriff's Office as Derek Ryan Gray, 30, of Vidor, they found he had methamphetamine and several illegally possessed prescription drugs in his possession.   Another man at the house, identified as Bobby Timothy Smith Jr, 29, of Vidor, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, including a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine.

Gray and Smith were arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.   Deputy Clint Hodgkinson said once at the jail, it was discovered that Gray had more hidden prescription pills on his person.

Gray was charged with 4 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, ranging from 3rd Degree Felony to Class B Misdemeanors.  Smith was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Gray's bond was set at $10,000 and he remains in custody.  Smith's bond was set at $500 and he has since posted bond and was released from the Orange County Jail.
