Death of Silsbee toddler raises questions

The death of Avery Sebastian Vincent, 1, of Silsbee has sparked an investigation by the Hardin County Sheriff's Office and Child Protective Services.

Family members of the toddler said he was found unresponsive in the bathtub by his mother, Natalie Nicole Vincent on Feb. 12. Avery's father, Gary Vincent, was not home.

After three days on life support at Texas Children's Hospital, Avery died on Valentine's Day.

Gary's aunt, Sherri Roth said their side of the family has a lot of unanswered questions about how Avery died.

Roth claims Natalie told police she left the room to grab a towel to dry the toddler off and when she returned he was floating in the bathtub.

She also said the story doesn't add up to what she saw when she visited the home later that night, which was clean towels stored right next to the tub. She said they want answers.

"It hurts because it's neglect and he's just a child," she said. "There's so many people who can't have children and a gift was given to her and she took it away."

Roth said Gary and Natalie have been married for a little less than a year and that Natalie has another child from a previous relationship.

Child Protective Services confirmed the investigation is on-going and that an autopsy has been ordered.

Funeral services for Avery are scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at Life Church in Port Arthur under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home.
