Custody hearing for child of Tyler County double-homicide victims has been reset

A custody status hearing the five-year-old child of double-homicide victims who were shot dead in front of Mount Carmel Baptist Church last month has been rescheduled.  The hearing was originally scheduled for Wednesday morning.  The hearing has been moved to Feb. 19 at the Tyler County Courthouse.

Investigators say Nathan Maddox, 34, and his wife Krystal, 31, were shot dead outside the church after the two were visiting Nathan's daughter.

Since no arrests have been made, the child was taken out of custody of Nathan's former in-laws and placed into the care of Family and Protective Services.

Sheriff's deputies tell 12News that Nathan's former in-laws and his parents have both hired attorneys fighting for custody of the child.

Both sides, along with Family and Protective Services, are expected to be in the courtroom Wednesday morning for the custody status hearing.

Deputies say they are waiting on forensic results from the scene to come in to help find a suspect in the case.

Deputies say there are several persons of interest but no suspects at this time.
