Curious 12-year-old Dayton boy suffers bullet fragment wounds after holding lighter up to a bullet

A Dayton boy, 12, is recovering from bullet fragment wounds after he held a cigarette lighter up to a .22-caliber bullet.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.

A Deputy Sunday met the mother and her son on Highway 90 near Highway 321 in Dayton on their way to the hospital.

Bullet fragments had cut through the boy's left middle finger and lodged in his left eyelid.

He told the Deputy that he wanted to see what would happen when he held the lighter up to the bullet.

The boy's mother drove him herself to a hospital in Humble, TX. for treatment.  The injuries are not life threatening.
