Port Arthur store clerk wounded in gunfight with robbers

PORT ARTHUR - Three armed robbers may have thought a female store clerk was an easy target Wednesday night.  They thought wrong.

The gunmen walked up behind a clerk just before midnight as she closed the store located at 3741 25th Street in Port Arthur.  They fired a shot and she returned fire.  At some point in the altercation a bullet hit the clerk in the leg.  A police spokesperson told 12News they do not yet know if any of the robbers were hit.

An ambulance crew treated her at the scene then took her to CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

Police have not made any arrests as of 9 a.m. Thursday.
