Controversial housing project hits roadblock

12News has learned that controversial efforts to build a $10 million Port Arthur housing development on 12th Street have been "kicked to the curb."

Residents near the old Edison Middle School objected to the move, fearing violence and drugs would make their way into the proposed 128 unit complex.

The Port Arthur City Council approved the "Edison Square" project by a 5 to 3 vote in July.

But tonight, the zoning board of adjustments and appeals voted unanimously that a zoning change had been improperly obtained.
