Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee told 12News the U.S. Department of Justice is moving forward in taking a closer look at the circumstances surrounding the death of Jasper's Alfred Wright.
Jackson Lee, representative of the 18th Congressional District, was in Jasper Saturday for a Black History Month event called "Pillars of the Community Program." Jackson Lee was the keynote speaker.
After the event, the congresswoman from Houston, talked exclusively to 12News about her request to the Department of Justice to take a closer look at the Wright investigation.
Jackson Lee said, "We believe the Department of Justice is moving forward and will be questioning a number of individuals and reviewing a number of documentation. It is our task now to let the investigation go forward."
Wright went missing last November. His body was found 18 days later in a location that had been searched earlier by the Sabine County Sheriff's Office.
