A community is showing its support for the three children of a man and women killed on McFaddin Beach in a double murder suicide.
Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies say 31-year-old Lauren Brack had two daughters and 34-year-old Regino Maybit Junior had one son they left behind when they were gunned down last month by Brack's ex-boyfriend, 32-year-old Eric Omar Barragan.
Authorities say Barragan then turned the gun on himself.
Community members Sunday held a fundraiser held at "The Place" bar in Port Acres. The benefit included door prizes, auction items, a live band and food.
Shirts were also on sale. People were able to sign up for a horseshoe tournament. All proceeds are going to the children of Maybit and Brack.
Organizers say the benefit raised somewhere around $14,000. It will be split in half and put into accounts for the children.
There will be another benefit Saturday, July 20 for Maybit and his son at the Charlie LeBlanc Electrical Training Center in Nederland. It will start at 11 a.m. and last until 9 p.m.
The next day there will be another benefit for Brack and her daughters at Jimmy's Automotive on Nederland Ave. starting at 10 a.m.
