City of Beaumont to cut $2 million from budget

Our news partner, the Beaumont Enterprise, reports that the city of Beaumont could eliminate certain jobs as part of $2 million in proposed budget cuts.

City Manager Kyle Hayes told the city council during a budget workshop Tuesday that revenue is growing by 1.1%.

Hayes says the city does not want to eliminate positions that come into direct contact with the public, but are looking to make cuts internally.

The city's plan of action to cut spending by $2 million includes eliminating vacant positions, continuing to streamline operations, and selling under-utilized city assets.

The city's new budget year begins October 1.
