12News has learned the child of a man who was shot to death last Saturday has been turned over the state's Department of Family Protective Services.
The Tyler County Sheriff's office says the child was picked up from the grandparents' home Thursday afternoon. The 4-year-old girl was staying with her father's ex-wife's parents.
The father, 35-year-old Nathan Bradley Maddox and his wife, Krystal Rene Maddox, were both shot and killed around 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in a rural area of Northeast Tyler County.
Sheriff Bryan Weatherford says deputies received a call reporting gunshots had been fired. When deputies arrived they found two people had been shot and the shooter had already fled.
Both victims died at the scene, according to Sheriff Weatherford.
Investigators say the two were at the church building complying with visitation of Mr. Maddox's child.
When asked at Monday's news conference if Mr. Maddox's ex-wife's father is a person of interest, Sheriff Weatherford responded saying everyone is a suspect at this point.
Mr. Maddox's father, Jim Maddox, said a joint memorial service for Nathan and Krystal Maddox will be held Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Assembly of God.
There have not yet been any arrests made.
