Cheers and chanting as Carnival cruise ship docks

There was a celebration in Mobile, Alabama Thursday night as the Carnival Cruise Ship "Triumph" docked at the Port of Mobile just before 10 p.m.

12News Vanessa Holmes and Photojournalist Santos Maldonado were standing at the gates as the cruise ship docked.

Loud cheers and chants could be heard all over the port from the 4,000 passengers and crew members along with cheering from family members waiting outside the terminal.

Passengers were waiving towels, bed sheets, and waiving their lighted cell phones as they pulled into dock.

The Carnival CEO spoke to the media as the ship was docking.

"I'm thankful and relieved that the guests and crew are home safe. We've gotten our guests back to land. Now, it's time to bring them home," he said.

Immediately following the press conference, the CEO went on board the cruise ship and personally apologized to passengers and crew members.

It was a long, miserable four days for over 4,000 people, but they are now safe on U.S. soil home with loved ones.
