Cameron Diaz is the latest star to join Jay-Z and Will Smith's remake of "Annie."
Sony Pictures confirms the 40-year-old actress will portray Miss Hannigan, a role that Sandra Bullock was reportedly eyeing but has apparently passed on.
Diaz does have experience playing a disinterested and needlessly cruel authority figure thanks to her role in 2011's "Bad Teacher," a movie that went over well enough to spawn a sequel. But given that this is a movie musical, it'll be interesting to see how Diaz does with the vocal requirements.
The "Annie" remake has already tapped Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis to portray the titular spunky young orphan, and Jamie Foxx was in talks to take on Daddy Warbucks, who in this version is called Benjamin Stacks.
Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are co-producing the remake through their Overbrook Entertainment along with Jay's Marcy Media. The movie, with Will Gluck ("Easy A," "Friends with Benefits") at the helm, is slated for a Christmas 2014 release.
