Burglary suspect arrested thanks to call to Beaumont police

A man Beaumont police describe as a transient has been arrested for breaking into cars before the sun came up Monday morning.

Around 4 a.m. officers were called to the Carley House Apartments located at 3580 S. Martin Luther King Jr Pkwy.  The caller said someone was prowling and trying to break into vehicles.  

Officers found Jacoby L. Richard, 26, walking around vehicles in the parking lot. He dropped a bag, later determined to contain stolen items, and began walking away when he saw the patrol vehicle.  Richard told officers he broke into a vehicle at another location and stole the items.

Richard was arrested for burglary of a vehicle and taken to to the Jefferson County Jail.
