Burglars continue to plague Orange neighborhood

Orange resident Lanny Latta got an unpleasant call at work Monday night. He was told someone had thrown a brick through his back door made of glass. Oddly enough, it did not come as a huge surprise to Latta.

"It's nothing but a crime spree in this neighborhood, every one of these houses have been hit," Latta said.

Luckily his two dogs helped keep the criminal from coming inside. But Latta says for months now, items have gone missing from several homes on Bruce Lane just a few blocks west of 16th Street.
"Honestly I'm waiting for the show 'Cops' to show up because we have the (police) department here everyday," he said.

Latta, along with his wife and his neighbor's wife, sit out on his front porch for several hours every night, keeping an eye on the streets.

Latta's neighbor Allan Brown says someone burglarized his home two weeks before Christmas, stealing his son's Xbox.

"Everybody's living like we're caged in our houses and can't go anywhere, you know can't run errands anymore, we're afraid to leave for too long," Brown said.

Both men believe two teenagers who live in the neighborhood are responsible for the crimes, but say police do not have enough proof to make any arrests at this time.

Orange Police could not be reached for comment on the matter.
"This was such a good neighborhood, now you can't even let your kids out to play because you don't know what's going on," Latta said.

If another crime happens, Latta may capture the culprit on a security camera in his front window. Right above it, his wife posted a sign with a simple request... "Smile".
