Boil water notice leaves VISD campuses without drinking water, students asked to bring bottled water

A boil water notice in Orange County has left campuses in the Vidor Independent School District without drinkable water, but will not stop the school day.

Superintendent Jay Killgo told 12News that the district encouraged parents to send bottled water to school with their students.  The superintendent said the campuses have water, but it is not drinkable until the all clear is given by the county.

The boil water notices affects all homes, businesses and other water customers who get water from Orange County Water Control & Improvement District #1.

Due to a major break in a transmission line, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has asked all customers of the water district to boil water before consumption.  The TCEQ said all water used for drinking, cooking or making ice should be boiled for at least two minutes before drinking.
