12News has learned that Beaumont Independent School District Assistant Director of Finance and Purchasing has been suspended with pay.
Two independent sources within the district told 12News that Naomi Lawrence-Lee is being investigated for not following proper procedure, and not going through the right channels for documenting extra time worked for pay.
12News sought confirmation from the district. BISD Communications Specialist Nakisha Myles said the district cannot comment because it is a personnel issue.
According to 12News file stories, Lawrence-Lee worked as the purchasing agent for Jefferson County before being hired by BISD. She was forced to resign her position in 2007 after the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office discovered that she used the county print shop, which she oversaw, to do printing for personal business. In exchange for her resignation, the District Attorney's office agreed not to prosecute her for use of county facilities for personal use.
Tuesday evening, 12News went by Lee's home. She went to the door, but did not open it. She told us she had no comment, and that questions could be addressed to Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois.
Lee is a U.S. Army veteran who worked as a buyer for the city government of New Orleans and also for the Louisiana state government, before moving to Texas with her family.
