BISD: technical error cancels Sallie Curtis field trip

A spokesperson for the Beaumont Independent School District said a different school in the district somehow cancelled the bus reservation for a Sallie Curtis field trip Thursday. The change forced third graders to miss a trip to the district's Education Learning Center in Lumberton.

Sallie Curtis teacher Thelma Eller confirmed the third grade trip was cancelled.

"I talked to one of the third graders who I watch in the afternoon and she was extremely disappointed that they didn't get to go," Eller said.

Some parents told 12News that students were waiting for more than an hour before learning their field trip was cancelled. Instead, third graders had a lunch picnic outside Sallie Curtis Elementary.

The BISD spokesperson said it is unsure how another school could have cancelled the bus for the field trip, but is looking into it. Some parents said  students had to pay for the trip,  but the district has not said if the money will be returned.

The spokesperson confirmed the field trip will not be rescheduled. The Beaumont Teacher Association hopes to schedule a "splash day" at Rogers Park for the children.
