BISD teacher on paid administrative leave after being accused of abusing special needs child

The Beaumont Independent School District has taken Marney Essoh out of her classroom at Pietzsch-MacArthur Elementary School, and placed the teacher on paid administrative leave.

The district is investigating an accusation that Essoh verbally abused and assaulted six-year-old Triniti Thibodeaux with a yardstick.

In addition to BISD's investigation, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is also looking into the allegations.

In the meantime, the girl's mother, Courtney Thibodeaux, is her voice since the girl is unable to speak for herself.

Triniti suffers from Angelman Syndrome, a disorder that makes the girl unable to speak and causes her seizures.

Thibodeaux says the girl's therapist, who's in class with her, witnessed the abuse and reported it last week.

On Friday, Thibodeaux went to meet with school officials and BISD police.

Thibodeaux has removed Triniti from school until BISD can guarantee her safety.

Thibodeaux says her daughter was called ugly by Essoh and a teacher's aide, and also her hands were hit with a yardstick, that the teachers had named "Pepper".

Thibodeaux says the Essoh would also restrain her daughter in a wheelchair, only allowing her up to use the bathroom.
