As the Beaumont Independent School District's school year officially came to a close, some parents were left questioning where they'll be sending their students next school year.
Happy, describes BISD students finally out for summer break and relief describes the parents and teachers wrapping up a controversial year for the district.
Despite the problems this year within the district, Jack Moore said he's pleased with the education his fifth grade daughter received from Guess Elementary.
"I went to every teacher today that had anything to do with my child in the last five years and said ‘I appreciate you grooming her to go to the next step.'"
As far as where his daughter will be headed for sixth grade next year he said he's waiting to see what happens with the TEA before he makes that decision.
"My problem is where are we headed?" Moore said. "I'll still be paying my school taxes here whether we send her somewhere else."
The district is considering different areas to cut financially which includes possibly closing two middle schools, canceling after school bussing and eliminating special programs.
In the meantime Moore said for his family, summer break will be just that.
"We're ready to go swimming and eat pizza," he said. "That's where they're going, in my backyard and I even got a watermelon for them."?
