Beaumont police investigating report of fake cop

A woman told police she was pulled over Friday night by a man she believes was posing as an officer. Detectives are working to determine exactly what took place.

A police spokesperson said the incident is alleged to have happened around 11:30 pm on Eastex Freeway between E. Lucas and Dowlen. The woman said that a man driving a dark blue, four-door car with red and blue overhead lights pulled her over. she described him as a blonde-haired white male, about 5'10", weighing about 180 pounds. She said that he was wearing a dark blue uniform that displayed a badge and a name tag. After detaining her for several minutes, the man then told her that she could leave.

Due to the man's behavior and statements, she felt that he might not have been a police officer, so she called police.

The police spokesperson said this is the only call the department has received about the man stopping motorists, and asked that anyone else who has experienced a similar incident to call the Beaumont Police Department at 409-832-1234.
