Beaumont Police Department news release

Subject:Detectives investigating child drowning

On Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at about 5:36 pm, family members of a four year old child called to report that he had drowned in the pool of the Super 8 Motel located at 2850 I-10 East.

First responders arrived and found the family attempting to administer CPR on the child as he lay on the concrete adjacent to the pool.  Beaumont EMS Paramedics took over the CPR and continued as they transported him to St. Elizabeth ER.  Once at the hospital, Emergency Room Staff also tried to revive the child but were unable to do so.  The E.R. doctor pronounced the child dead at 6:32 pm.

Detectives are attempting to determine the facts that lead to the drowning.  They are interviewing family members who had been swimming with the child throughout the afternoon.  Child Protective Services will also be conducting a joint investigation.

The child was a Beaumont resident.  In order to give the parents time to notify other family members in the area, we are not releasing the child's name at this time.
