Beaumont mayor says TEA's report on school district "a fair and honest assessment.".

City of Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames Wednesday said the Texas Education Agency's final report on the financial affairs portion of the agency's audit was a "fair and honest assessment' of the district.

TEA on Monday announced they would recommend the Commissioner of Education appoint a Board of managers to overtake the roles and duties of the Board of Trustees. Commissioner Michael Williams visited with Superintendent Tim Chargois and the Board of Trustees individually Wednesday, but made no indication as to what his decision would be regarding the handling of the district's problems. He did not offer a timeline as to when he would decide which action to take.

"I have been monitoring the progress of the Texas Education Agency's investigation and believe their final report provides a fair and honest assessment of current affairs at BISD. Commissioner Michael Williams and the TEA have my support. I know that Commissioner Williams will make the decisions needed for our school district and I believe what he decides will be in the best interest of our city and of course, our children. I want to assure our citizens that I will continue to do everything I can as Mayor to support positive change in Beaumont not only with our school district but with any initiative that will help our city prosper while improving the quality of life for our citizens and our businesses."
