Beaumont man treated for gunshot wounds after shootout with deputies

A Beaumont man underwent surgery for two gunshot wounds after exchanging gunfire with deputies Thursday night.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Rod Carroll told 12News that deputies shot a Beaumont man, 34, who pulled a gun on them as they were doing a follow-up investigation into a recent home invasion robbery that happened in Nome.

Deputy Carroll said that around 9:30 p.m., deputies were at the Stone Hurst Apartments located at 1650 East Lucas in Beaumont as part of their investigation into the robbery that happened in the county.  He said while they were there, they encountered a man with a pistol.  A short chase took place before the man fired several rounds at the deputies.

He said the deputies returned fire hitting the suspect twice.  He was taken to Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth in Beaumont for surgery.

Deputy Carroll said the man's name will not be released until he has been arraigned.  At 3:30 p.m. Friday he said the suspect is in stable condition at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.
