Beaumont I.S.D. teachers research, question administrative job cuts

Some Beaumont Independent School District teachers have forwarded a document to the Texas Education Agency Conservator that suggest the superintendent did not follow his directive to eliminate more administrative positions.

The teachers involved researched and created the document titled "RIF list: The Facts." It list 16 administrative positions in the revised Reduction in Force list. The teachers say many of the positions are not real, have been renamed, or are vacated.

TEA appointed Conservator Fred Shafer directed Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois to cut more positions in Central Administration in order to be fair to teachers and other employees who would be laid off.

The document also says three administrative cuts are not truly administrative. It states the District Lead Teacher in Math, District Lead Teacher Planetarium and Eagle Librarian of the Administration Annex.

Teachers say there were at least two administrative positions in the list that they could not find any information for leading teachers to believe they don't exist.

The Board of Trustees will vote on the mass layoffs during a special board meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m.
