A well-known Beaumont attorney is in jail on bonds totaling more than $12,000,000.
Police arrested Alto Watson Wednesday and charged him with burglary of a habitation and family violence. His bond was set at $25,000 for that charge. But the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office says last month Watson had pleaded guilty to four counts of theft and was awaiting sentencing.
Watson admitted taking money belonging to the Gilbert Adams Law Firm where he worked, and also from one of the firm's clients.
When Judge Layne Walker learned of Wednesday's arrest, he upped Watson's bonds on the theft charges to $3,000,000 each.
