BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- A suspect was fatally shot by Baytown police after a chase on Thursday morning.

Baytown police say at about 10:45am, they received a 'shots fired' call at a apartment complex in the 1300 block of E. James Street. A man was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute, and had fired shots. Then the man's girlfriend called police as the suspect took off.

An officer spotted a vehicle speeding down E. Texas and tried to pull the car over, but the driver took off. The car ended up hitting another vehicle on Decker at South Airhart and came to a stop.

A police spokesperson says the officer saw the suspect putting a gun to his own head. Officers tried to talk to the man on a PA system, then approached the car. As they approached the car, police say they saw the man in an ambush-style position, then he started shooting outside the window.

The suspect was partially outside the driver's side window and continued to fire at police, who returned fire, killing the suspect.
