Nederland and Port Arthur police officers Saturday made an arrest in an armed robbery case.
Port Arthur police assisted Nederland officers on an aggravated robbery call at the Valero store in the 2100 block of FM 365 in Nederland around 8:35 p.m. Saturday.
Police say a witness spotted the robber running into the Shire Apartments in Port Arthur. This is across the street from the Valero store that was robbed. The witness told officers which apartment the suspect ran into before officers surrounded the apartment.
According to police, the suspect tried to leave the apartment out of the back patio, saw officers outside, then ran back inside the apartment.
Police say the suspect then fired one gunshot in an unknown direction. Officers ordered everyone out of the apartment and then took the suspect into custody. Two other occupants were also detained.
Police located a handgun in the apartment that they believe was used in the aggravated robbery; as well as clothing worn by the suspect. Police also recovered a large amount of cash that they believe was taken in the robbery.
The suspect remains in the Jefferson County jail on a charge of Aggravated Robbery. Further charges may be pending.
Police also say there was property inside the apartment that may have been taken in a burglary earlier at the Shire Apartment. That investigation is ongoing.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
