Amber Alert for 5 kids canceled after stolen day care van recovered and kids found safe

HOUSTON --

Authorities have canceled an Amber Alert after they safely located the five children who were taken during a day care van in southwest Houston and the suspect was taken into custody.

Authorities found the van shortly after 9pm near Cinco Ranch Boulevard and Mason Road in the Katy area.

Authorities say the day care van was stolen around 6:15pm Wednesday from a Jack in the Box in the 8600 block of West Bellfort. Police say its driver went inside the restaurant, left the children behind and kept the van running. That's when a man jumped into the driver's seat and took off.

The children were identified as three-year-old Paris Shaner, Kendalyn Sterling, 4, Stevie Nicholson, 7, Alexander Veasley, 9, and 11-year-old Christian Batiste.

The vehicle is a gray or silver, 2009 GMC Acadia with the Texas License Plate DCN8277. It belongs to JTD Transportation.

The suspect is described as a curly-haired Hispanic male wearing glasses and a blue shirt. Witnesses say he might be homeless.

Anyone with information on the vehicle, suspect or children is asked to immediately call the Houston Police Department at 713-308-3600.
