A hybrid school in Beaumont offers an education alternative

A group of families from this area, looking for another option in education, started a new hybrid school in Beaumont.

Veritas Classical Academy is a mix of traditional private Christian school and home-schooling.

Full day classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and parents teach their children at home on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Fridays for 5th Grade and up.

The head master, Tom Muirhead, says their "classical" approach to education is divided into three stages: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.

Lucy Merrill has three children enrolled at Veritas and has already seen what it's done for her kids.

"They're learning Latin, their grammar lessons are very organized, their attitude towards education has improved," said Merrill.

In the coming years the Veritas staff hope to increase enrollment and offer classes up to 12th grade.

Tuition at the school is $3,200 per year.
