80-year-old suspected drowning victim rides mower into pond

A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Saturday said it appears an 80-year-old man may have drowned after his riding mower ended up in a pond.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call about a possible drowning around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the 22000 block of Highway 365 in Fannett.

When deputies arrived, they were told that the man was mowing grass on a zero turning radius lawn mower around a pond on his property when the lawn mower entered the water. The man was pinned by the mower. Medics from the Labelle-Fannett Volunteer Fire Department attempted to resuscitate the man with no success.
Jefferson County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Judge Ray Chesson pronounced the man dead at the scene. Judge Chesson has ordered and autopsy.

The man's name is not being released at this time.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is on-going.
