You only have one opportunity to make a first impression and about 1,800 job seekers got that opportunity today.
12 news hosted a job fair at the MCM Elegante hotel in Beaumont where over 20 employers offered those looking for work the chance to meet face-to-face and talk about possible job opportunities.
Jessica Drake said she's been looking for employment for over a month and has put out about 70 applications.
"The economy we're in now, it takes both spouses to have a job and make a living to pay their bills," she said.
Drake recently moved to Lumberton and said she quickly found out how tough finding a job can be, even though her resume is decent.
"In my experience I have over 15 years in retail office work about 6 years clerical secretary work."
She handed that resume out to over 20 employers. One of those employers was Erin Gallien, Executive Director at Kaplan College, she said she was pleased with the turn out at the fair.
"It is pretty awesome in the first 45 minutes I was here I think we had 700 people come through the door," she said.
Drake said she has advice for others on the search.
"Stay focused... you have to get out there you have to just push you have to stay on them you can't just put in an application and walk away from it and expect a call," she said.
Employers reminded all candidates, the first step to landing a new job is a strong first impression and an updated resume.
