The Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating a boating accident that claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl and seriously injured her 7-year-old sister.

The sheriff's office received an emergency call around 6:30pm Saturday in reference to a boating accident that happened on the Sabine River near the end of West Bluff Road. When deputies and rescue workers with the Emergency District #3 arrived, they discovered a man and his two daughters had been out in the boat when the inclement weather came into the area. Deputies say the boat collided with a dock and ejected all three occupants. The boat immediately sank underwater.

The 7- year- old girl suffered serious injury to her hand and leg.  Authorities say the 10- year- old girl could not be immediately found.  It was reported that she was wearing a life jacket.  As more emergency personnel arrived on scene, the boat was located underwater. The 10 -year- old girl was located near the boat underwater where she had been trapped by the boat.  She was non-responsive.

The two girls were transported to the Baptist Hospital in Orange, but life saving measures could not revive the 10-year-old. The 7- year- old had to be air-lifted to a Houston hospital due to the severity and type of  her injuries.   The Orange County Sheriff's Office is not releasing any names at this time.
