Tropical Storm Nate is now over very mountainous terrain in Nicaragua and Honduras. This will disrupt the center of circulation and we'll have to wait and see until later today once it gets back over warm Caribbean water what that does to the strength of the storm. Forecasted to approach hurricane strength prior to the nearing the Yucatan and then becoming a hurricane once in the southern Gulf. The storm will quickly move northward and likely make landfall along the LA or MS coast by Sunday morning. Winds are forecast to reach 80 mph, but those will only be felt very near the center. Tropical storm force winds, beginning Saturday afternoon or night along the LA coast, will likely be felt across most of SE LA and S MS and AL during the day Sunday. the good news, again, is since this is a fast moving storm, conditions will begin improving by late Sunday and next week. Rainfall for the entire event looks to be around 3-5+ over the course of 2 days...which we can normally handle, but surge could reach about 3-5 ft and exacerbate already flooding areas from the strong east winds. Coastal and lake shore flooding and strong winds look to be out greatest concerns right now.

Rain chances begin to fall by Monday and we're only looking at a 30% for Tuesday and Wednesday before a real Fall cold front moves through late next week.

We will be tracking it closely and will keep you updated.
