Port Arthur Memorial honors Elandon Roberts, retires his jersey

Elandon Roberts was told his entire life that he wasn't good enough to play at the next level. Now he's a world champion with the New England Patriots and he's played in two Super Bowls.

When Elandon Roberts celebrated his National Signing Day, he was a little disappointed but at the same time appreciative. He signed with Morgan State, but thought he deserved to play division one.

As his high school head coach Kenny Harrison described Roberts' college years, which ended with the University of Houston as the Cougars top tackler three years ago, he reiterated to the juniors, sophomores, and freshman in attendance that Roberts was constantly doubted, yet he prevailed.

Now, #44, his jersey number, is retired and is a symbol in Port Arthur, that nobody can stop a man's will. Elandon Roberts came back to Port Arthur, not even a week after losing the Super Bowl, to shake the hands of student-athletes, and all others who wanted to say hello, with pride and honor.

You can hear how humble he was on Wednesday in the video above. 12 Sports will post more from the ceremony on this link later tonight or Thursday morning.
