The Newton Eagles spotted Boling an early 14-0 lead, thanks to two TD's by Alabama committ Vernon Jackson, but then came roaring back to post a 56-28 win Friday night in the 3A Division II semifinals at Porter.
The Eagles were sparked by a forced fumble at the Boling one yard line, that set up a TD by QB Josh Foster, to get Newton back within 21-20.
Then it was a 69 yard hook and ladder play to the 12Star Athlete of the Week Darwin Barlow, to give the Eagles a 27-21 lead.
Foster then hooked up with Noah Williams for a 23 yard TD pass to make it 33-21 Eagles.
Newton will face Gunter for the state championship Thursday night at 7 pm at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
