Port Arthur Salvation Army demolished due to Harvey damage, moves services temporarily

The non-profit group's social services and boys and girls clubs have been temporarily moved to a Nederland location

PORT ARTHUR — The building that once housed the Port Arthur chapter of the Salvation Army was demolished on Monday due to the amount of damage the structure received when Tropical Storm Harvey struck Southeast Texas.

The non-profit group's social services and boys and girls clubs have been temporarily moved to a Nederland location according to Captain Frankco Higdon, the Pastor and Administrator of the Port Arthur Salvation Army.

Port Arthur resident Misty Fontenot has relied on the Port Arthur Salvation Army for more than 10 years.

"I don't like it because they were so close to us," said Fontenot. "We could go there to go to the food bank and now we can't."

The Orange and Beaumont Salvation Army chapter will host church services on Sundays until a Port Arthur location is built.

The Port Arthur Salvation Army will make an announcement as soon as a new site is found Higdon told 12News.
