Orangefield ISD passes measure allowing marshals on campus

ORANGEFIELD — Orangfield Independent School District Board of Trustees by unanimously voted Monday night to allow the district to employ marshals for school security.

The district can employ up to nine marshals for the entire district, which is one marshal per 200 kids.

School marshal training will start this summer.Texas Commission on law Enforcement administers the program, which will take place in San Antonio or in Abilene.

Marshals are required to undergo 18 hours of training and must pass the same psychological exam that police are required to pass.

"This is all about response time." said Stephen Patterson, superintendent of OISD.
