NEDERLAND — Business owners along Nederland Avenue have mixed feelings about an upcoming $5 million road construction project along one of the city's main throughways
The city of Nederland just approved the plan that’s expected to begin on May 14, 2018, and will be paid for with a penny and a half tax increase that went into effect in January.
The project is expected to last for just over five months ending in late October 2018.
Some business owners, like Keith Landry, of Keith’s Custom Jewelry, say that while construction will affect their business it is something that needs to be done.
“Now is as good a time as any before it gets so bad it ends up costing more money and more time to do it,” Landry said.
Maria Rangel, owner of Mr. T’s Health Store, agrees that the necessary construction while also hurt her business.
"It needs to be done, but at the same time I think it will affect the business," she said.
