Dozens gathered at Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Beaumont to call for an end to abortion. The Right of Life in Southeast Texas led the pro-life rally.

Roy Kirkland felt his sixth year attending the rally was among the most important.

"In the turmoil the country is running in right now we need to get back to basics: human life. I mean why do we kill children?" Kirkland said.

Prayers to end abortion came from the pulpit in Saint Anne’s Catholic Church.

Right to Life of Southeast Texas president Victor Soares said he was happy to see plenty of youth groups in attendance.

"We recognize in this time of hurricane relief and all the other things that happened that the crowd is not as good as we'd like it to be but every voice is important," Soares said.

Kirkland believes those voices in support of pro-life are important.

"It's crazy, our pope says that a nation that kills children is a nation without hope," Kirkland said.

Soares says that he does not plan on attending next weekend’s rally in Austin, where Texas governor Greg Abbott is expected to attend.
