Parents speak out about attempted kidnapping of children after school on Monday

A Beaumont girl and two friends escaped unharmed after two men and a woman attempted to abduct them.

BEAUMONT — The parents of three little girls who said they were almost kidnapped a few blocks away from their school are speaking out.

Beaumont police said the little girls were walking home from Blanchette Elementary School on Monday afternoon when a car pulled up to them on the side of the road.

Investigators said it happened on the 2200 block of West Virginia St. near the Virginia Estates Apartments.

Camille Murry said her 9-year-old daughter told her there were two African American men and a white woman inside a white four door car.

However, police have not confirmed the description of the suspects or the vehicle.

“Whatever it is, it’s evil, just point blank and period evil,” said Murry.

Murry's daughter told her someone inside of the car told them to come closer but they refused.

The white car then pulled into the parking lot of the Virginia Estates Apartment complex and a man started running after the 9-year-old, 10-year-old and 11-year-old girl according to Murry.

"I’m glad that everything worked out and that everything she was taught came to her," said Murry.

One of the girls lives at the Virginia Estates Apartments so she was able to get home quickly but the other two had to run through a large field before they were safe.

"You never think this could happen to your child," said Murry.

Murry said it was difficult for her child to go to school on Tuesday morning because she was worried. She said she is thankful her child was not harmed.

"I am the blessed one who doesn't have to worry where my child is or I’m the blessed one that doesn't have to worry about putting fliers up for my child" said Murry.

Beaumont police said they are working with Beaumont ISD police and Lamar Police with this investigation.

Beaumont police are trying to see if this attempted kidnapping has any connection to a suspicious incident on Lamar's campus last Friday. A student at Lamar told police a person in a white car tried to get her to come inside the vehicle.

However, police have not confirmed if there is a connection at this time.

Another parent of one of the children said she hopes the suspects are caught soon.

“If I ever find out who did it, it’s over… y’all are trying to hurt my baby so I am going to hurt y’all,” said parent Curley Spiller.

If you have any information about this incident call Beaumont Police at 832-1234

“Justice to be served, justice to be served and that’s all we can ask for,” said Murry.

Another parent named Eli Denson posted about the attempted kidnapping on Facebook. He told 12News that two men and a woman attempted to abduct his daughter and two of her friends while she was walking home from Blanchette Elementary School Monday.

His daughter and her friends escaped unharmed according to Denson.

Beaumont Police confirmed to 12News that they are investigating the attempted abduction.

Beaumont Police Detectives are investigating and working with Beaumont ISD Police and Lamar University Police after similar incident reportedly happened Friday on the Lamar campus.

From the Beaumont Police Department...

On Monday, April 23, 2018 Beaumont Police responded to a residence near the 2200 block of West Virginia in reference to an Attempted Kidnapping.

Officers were told that a vehicle with 3 occupants called out to three children who were walking home from Blanchette Elementary.

BPD is encouraging parents to speak with their children about stranger danger, and what to do if they are approached by strangers.

Make sure your child knows:

  • How to give a police officer her name, address, and home phone number
  • If someone follows him or tries to force him into a car, run the opposite direction and scream
  • Use the buddy system when walking home from school or playing outside

If you have any information about this incident or any similar incidents, please contact the Beaumont Police Department at 409-832-1234.

We value the safety of our community and are working to gather accurate information to release about possible suspects.
