Why can't Americans lose weight? Screen time and schedules

Weight loss is getting harder for people - here's why.

If you're wondering why the scale hasn't budged, a new study from the "The Harris Poll" surveyed nearly 1,000 healthcare professionals, and more than 1,000 U.S. adults ages 18 and over.

The findings might not have been anything new - most people know they spend too much time looking at screens and not enough time outside - but who knew that it's making it that much harder for us to stick to our goals.

The survey said that, "Approximately eight in 10 healthcare professionals and 62% of U.S. adults believe losing weight is harder today than it was for previous generations because of the busy, modern lifestyle of Americans." The bulk of this stems from insecurity, with people reporting that 3 of 10 people trying to lose, say they have any confidence that a diet will actually work. 66% of women said they knew they don't exercise enough and their primary reasoning for losing weight is confidence.

Frank Greenway, M.D., medical director and professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center said that this survey, "underscores that we need to take a step back and evaluate what weight-loss strategies can best set people up for success given the demands of their daily lives." The biggest tip health-care professionals gave? Stick to something that doesn't uproot your daily routine.
