Tax tips for seniors

Tax time is here and almost everyone finds preparing and filing tax forms difficult and confusing.  Senior Source wants to offer assistance as you prepare your 2015 tax returns. 

The IRS has a helpful Tax Guide for Seniors - Publication 554, providing important information including material on deductions, IRA tax distributions, and preparation assistance. Click here for more. 

Publication 554 suggests visiting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE), or American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Tax-Aide site for assistance in preparing and filing taxes.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs provide free help for low-income taxpayers and taxpayers age 60 or older to fill in and file their returns.  For the VITA/TCE site nearest you, contact your local IRS office. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free individualized tax preparation for low to moderate income taxpayers throughout the metro area.  The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide home page has several items that will assist in preparing taxes.   On this page, you will find a link to a checklist of important documents to bring for tax preparation, frequently asked questions about Federal tax filing and an important Tax Aide location map.
