110-year-old WWII veteran dies

Born in 1905, Frank Levingston grew up in North Louisiana. He was one of seven children. He still remembers the day he was inducted into the Army.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 110-year-old Louisiana man who served in World War II has died.

Local television station KPLC-TV in Lake Charles reported that Frank Levingston died Tuesday.

Multiple media outlets described him as the country's oldest World War II veteran but that could not be independently confirmed.

ABC News reported that he enlisted in the army on Oct. 6, 1942, less than a year after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and launched the U.S. into the war raging in Europe and the Pacific.

Levingston's nephew Lee Levingston told ABC News that his uncle joined the military because he wanted to contribute to his country.

Levingston's funeral is scheduled to be held next Tuesday in his hometown of Cotton
