    Beaumont Area Swim Team going strong

    After qualifying 25 of their swimmers for the state meet this past weekend, the Beaumont Area Swim Team will be hosting the final local meet of the summer this Saturday at the BISD Natatorium. Teams from Vidor and Nederland will also be competiting starting at 9 a.m. and it's open to the public. The state meet will be held in Bryan/College Station.

The championship game of the double elimination bracket will start at 1 pm Tuesday with Mid-County needing to win two games to advance to the World Series.     11 year old Makenna Henry of Sour Lake aced the par-3 11th hole at Bayou Din Golf Club in the second round of the YMBL Junior tournament. Henry used a 17 degree hybrid from 125 yards out.     Clay Davis promoted to head coach at HJ

    Longtime Hardin-Jefferson assistant coach Clay Davis has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Hardin-Jefferson replacing Todd Sutherland, who resigned last week to become head coach at East Chambers. Davis has been an assistant with the Hawks the last 10 years and was part of their state championship team in 2007 and their state semi-finalist team in 2009. He also won a championship with the Hawks as a player in 1991. Davis has also been a head coach at Tatum and Jasper.

    Todd Sutherland is leaving the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks after 10 years to become the new boys basketball coach at East Chambers HS.     Tigers are Nederland 9/10 year old champs

    The Nederland 9/10 year old Tigers, who won the regular season with a 12-1 record, also won the tournament championship for the league on Monday night 13-5 over the Rangers. It marked the last regular season game at the Nederland LL Park, which will be taken over by Chevron after the All-Star tournaments are concluded. The league is still trying to raise money for building new fields for the 2015 season.
