Carol Sheed is just one of the many upset and frustrated at Sunlight Manor Apartments. Itex Management telling all first floor tenants to vacate for repairs due to the damage done by Harvey’s floodwaters.
Some claim the apartment complex isn’t helping them out.
“I think its messed up we didn’t get any deposits back, rent is still due, and it’s really a miss out here.” Said Evony Ford.
The apartment complex gave a “Termination Notice Due to Natural Disaster or Catastrophe” to tenants last week.
Documents show management has the right to terminate a lease within reasonable time and or to remove immediately damaged personal property if the casualty loss is substantial or if needed repairs could pose a danger.
And time is ticking as residents have until Wednesday to get out.
“For them to come at us like that and give us five days to get out, I can’t just up and move like that. I don’t have help!” said Carol Sheed.
Residents also received a letter saying September rent is still due and that no late fees would be charged due to the current circumstances.
Even though many will not be living there for most of the month because of repairs.
“It made me so angry with them like they kicking us to the curve like some dogs or something.” Said Sheed.
12News spoke to management at the property on Monday, they said the company was hosting a meeting to discuss temporary housing for the tenants affected by the disaster.
They also explained its mandatory tenants leave because of mold growing in their units.
Residents were already dealing with a gas leak that left them without any hot water before Harvey hit the area.
No word yet if tenants will be placed in another apartment complex.
