TxDOT asking Texas drivers to take survey to help them prepare for future I10 projects

"I10 goes from Louisiana all the way to New Mexico, so it's imperative that we know how people feel about it."

BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texans and beyond have a chance to share their opinions concerning Interstate 10 thanks to a Texas Department of Transportation survey.

To get around Southeast Texas, most drivers usually ride on Interstate 10. Those who drive on major highways are well aware of the issues the road can sometimes have.

TxDOT officials want to know what Texans believe the agency should focus on for future projects concerning the interstate.

Sarah Dupre is a public information officer for TxDOT Beaumont. She said the agency values Texans’ feedback when it comes to Interstate 10.

Dupre believes the I-10 Texas Corridor Study will give the agency an idea of the interstate's main needs. These needs could include more truck parking, widening or even new projects.

Questions on the survey asks where and how often do Texans drive on Interstate 10 and what are drivers' needs concerning the highway.

"I10 is used from one side of the country to the other, so we have a huge chunk of that right here in Texas," Dupre said. "I-10 goes from Louisiana all the way to New Mexico, so it's imperative that we know how people feel about it."

TxDOT officials will take the public's feedback on the survey and decide what short-term, mid-term and long-term needs can be met.

"We're gathering this information so we can improve I10 in the ultimate long run," Dupre said.

Dupre said Interstate 10 widening projects going on between Beaumont, Winnie and Orange will take a few more years to complete.

The survey will close on September 6, 2022. The feedback from the survey will not affect any active interstate projects the agency has going on.
