9-month-old, two others injured in Tuesday afternoon wreck involving Vidor patrol unit

The patrol unit was reportedly responding to an emergency call and had its emergency lights activated.

ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating after a wreck involving a Vidor Police vehicle left three people, including a 9-month-old, injured.

It happened around 3 p.m. on the Interstate 10 westbound service road near exit 861. Troopers believe a 2023 Cadillac SUV was going west on the service road, and a Vidor patrol unit was going west on the off-ramp from the Interstate to enter the service road.

The patrol unit was reportedly responding to an emergency call and had its emergency lights activated, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety release.

Troopers believe the Vidor unit turned to go east on the westbound service road, and the SUV went right to avoid hitting the unit. This caused the SUV to hit an electrical pole head-on.

Three people, including a 9-month-old, were in the SUV when the crash happened. All three were taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment, according to a release.

The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The driver of the patrol unit was not injured.
