A cattle truck overturned on the Crosby Freeway early Tuesday, the sheriff’s office says.
The incident was reported at about 4:25 a.m. on the westbound/inbound side of the highway near S. Lake Houston Parkway.
Officials say there were more than 120 head of cattle inside the truck. Many were rescued, but views from Air 11 showed that many of the cattle died.
Views from Air 11 showed rescuers cutting into the back of the wrecked big rig to open the doors. Several cattle made their way out on their own while others had to be pulled out into a pen set up alongside the freeway.
Officials say 30 of the cattle died, including 10 that had to be euthanized.
The highway fully reopened before noon.
