Senior safety, Blake Robinson helped lead the Mustangs to victory over Madisonville on Friday when he intercepted two passes, one during the final minute of the game.

“Well here is a guy that can play in space,” said Head Coach Cornell Thompson. “Can read his keys and be where he is supposed to be. And we are a pattern read football team. And he is getting to where, because of the little experience he has. He’s getting to understand what’s going on in his part of the game plan. He’s one eleventh part of the game plan. He starting to understand what the other parts about.”

Because Robinson who is naturally a wide receiver, catching 5 passes for 75 yards against Madisonville, had to learn safety this year.

“Safety is kind of a tricky position for me because I never played it really," said Robinson. "So, him (Thompson) putting me in that position, you have to make plays.”

Make plays he did helping the mustangs win a close one 28 to 26. But pulling off close victories in the post season is nothing new for Robinson and West Orange-Stark.

“Seniors we’ve been through it last year. We know how it goes down. I mean we want to get back to the State Championship,” said Robinson.

You can see Robinson and the Mustangs take on Salado on Friday at 7 pm in Katy.
