Titans' trip to San Antonio represents much more than basketball

Port Arthur Memorial knew they could win a basketball state championship before the school year started. Now they have that chance even after Harvey devastated the homes of several players and coaches.

Port Arthur hasn't won a state championship in 23 years. Lincoln was the last high school to bring home the title.

But in order to win it, you have to get there. The Titans will play in San Antonio this weekend with players who had the talent, overcame several hardships of a hurricane, and stuck with the belief that they could become champions.

The last six months have been hard on the Port Arthur community, but this basketball team is one bright spot that now has the chance of a lifetime.

Memorial plays Midlothian at 7:00p.m.in the Class 5A state Semifinal at the Alamodome.
